Looking back, its special...

Most of the time our vacations, whether planned in advance or undertaken spontaneously, end once we are back to our grind… what remain are the memories (saved as photographs!!)… but there are some vacations which are so well imprinted in the mind that they seem endless… it seems as if we still continuing on the vacation or atleast yearn for it all the time… Once such vacation we were on recently, when we travelled to Malaysia… I don’t need to see photos or souvenirs to be reminded of it… it feels as if I am still there… with my warm hosts…

Here are our hosts… Ananda, Simran and Naina… the most charming people we know… and why am I calling them hosts at all? Not once did we feel like guests with them… not once did we feel away from home when with them… they are more a family now… thank you Ananda, Simran and Naina for giving us one of our memorable holidays…
I still do relish the grilled chicken, butter garlic prawns that Ananda made (they were so yum.. sorry for not leaving any behind for your guests Andy!!)… simran’s khichdi (it was such a relief for my upset stomach!!)… and my ‘soft n tender’ rotis to compliment… :-) :-) Am also so grateful to Simran for feeding Nithila all the time (one task which I consider as ‘impossible’ for myself) and keeping her pacified while I enjoyed the assorted platter of food and explored the bustling malls and the flurrying markets…

While I was pretty much aware (and hence warned of!!) of Simran’s compulsive shopping nature, I didn’t know that would rub onto me so easily… so with our everlasting zeal for shopping, we managed to delve into all possible things on display at every place we went to (thank you Andy for volunteering to manage the two brats while we indulged to our hearts content!!) … and simran’s craze for bargaining and negotiations did not die till the end… till she managed to get my excess baggage cleared with her ever gratifying ‘sorrys’ and ‘pleases’... :-))
I need to make a special mention of our little monsters Naina and Nithila… and their perplexing ‘love n hate’ relationship… they ate together, bathed together, muddled together, cried together, laughed together… they jumped onto Andy together (it did really touch me to see how Nithila took to calling Andy as ‘Baba’ as Naina does… and Andy responding fondly to her… :-))… as much as these two girls hugged and kissed each other, so did they hit and bit each other… Nithila’s first ever ‘love-bite’ on her cheek was from Naina… and she flaunted it to everyone back here saying ‘Naina kaataa’ :-):-)… Nithila misses you Naina…

All through the trip, Simran and me kept our chitchats, gossips alive… made up for all that we had missed over the months since she had gone away… and these discussions would be about anything freaky and funny… to somethings absolute serious (or rather we making it sound very serious!!)… one such discussion being on whether the decision to go and work in KL was right or wrong… and whether it would be prudent to continue there… well, a pretty serious thought this is… I don’t undermine the exposure and experience an international stint might give, I also don’t want to neglect the boost in career (and ofcourse money!!) that such moves bring… but is all this worth at the cost of renouncing your own little world that you had crafted so affectionately… is it worth making new friends, knowing that these are just temporary heart-warmers… constantly look for life around while you are not able to detach from the life back home… I think every individual will have his/her own answers to these questions… and I sincerely hope that Simran you find the right answer, very soon…

Whether I can or cannot, I don’t think I want to be living in a totally unknown space for too long… but it is an absolute pleasure to visit these unknown spaces, observe them, absorb them, feel them, live in them and while there, enhance my own culture, ethnicity and way of life… This one vacation in Malaysia was made possible only and only by Simran and Ananda and now that I am home, I yearn to be with them… going about indulging, merry-making, exploring and laughing together…. looking back at the days I spent with these friends (an extended family now..) those 10 days in Malaysia were very very special…
