Kerala Kronikles... part 3... at peace, this Deepawali...
Deepawali – has always been a festival of lights and diyas, of mithais and laddoos, of crackers and fireworks, of extended family and friends, of temple visits and puja, of gifts and wishes… this year our Deepawali had none of the above elements… not that it was intentional, but more incidental… it was exceptionally peaceful and unflustered…
Spent the weekend and better part of Deepawali at Kumarakom… a backwater destinatio
n in Kerala… unwinding, relaxing, experiencing a slower pace of life… indulged in everything that a ‘holiday’ is meant for – binged on the kerala fish curry, spicy karimeen fry (spices are not just grown here but also used in abundance!!)… spotted ducks and tortoises in the canals… swerved in hammocks, indulged in ayurvedic massages… took boat rides through canals and backwaters, carving their way through bird sanctuary… lazed on the green wet lawns savoring the breeze, looking at the sunset over vast expanse of the lake…
There was not a single sign
of festivities around… as if the bountiful nature flourished by its own defined seasons, unmindful of the festivals and traditions and rituals… we did miss the exuberance of festivities, but this peaceful existence (although for 2 days!!) did give lots of special moments to cherish… and set in the new year with hope and harmony...
