That special someone...

We see and meet many people in our daily life… some new, some known, some the very regular ones… while most of them just pass by us, there are a few who would have left a lasting impression on us… and not by doing something unusual… it could be just their smile or looks or a gesture or that one ‘glance’ that keeps lingering on mind… that small kid on the road waving happily, the old priest in the temple keeping his hand on our head affectionately, the intense looks in the eyes of this most handsome guy seen on some TV serial, the acknowledging look by one of the clients during presentations… the smile flashed by this cute guy in other car, whom we must have callously cut in the traffic… but these last only for sometime till something else grabs our attention or occupies our mind… must have happened innumerable times with me atleast…

Now some of these brush-offs really stand out… and it could be like one in hundreds or thousands probably… a person who just by a passing gesture (intentionally or unintentionally) would have touched a chord… to an extent that we want to meet that person again… experience the phenomenon again… and if our stars are in the right planetary positions, then we indeed are blessed with another encounter with that person, familiarize with a smile, draw into interesting conversations and this kicks off an out of the ordinary connection or bond… it could very well be with any fellow traveler or some elderly uncle during morning walks, or the regular shopkeeper, or just a colleague at work… thereafter you never know when these bonds get intense and stronger…

A friend mentioned to me how he had given up on expensive gadgets and lifestyle to be able to connect with his elderly landlady… having lost his mom much early in childhood, he found a motherly figure in his landlady… somehow she kept a distance from him given his affluent lifestyle and hence he gave up all his material comfort so that the landlady can relate to him and reciprocates with affection…

When the other day one of my friends said “I am wearing a short skirt today, par usko koi farak hi nahi padtaa.. :((” I kind of knew that her acquaintance with this person had grown to attraction… a bond was built wherein ‘noticing and getting noticed’ was very important… and when such feelings are not reciprocated, it is disappointing indeed… however still I know she will keep the disappointment aside and next time when she wears something nice and graceful, still expect him to notice (and even compliment!!)..

Wonder what keeps our egos low and spirits high when we go out of our way to please that special someone… but at the same time, can we avoid or stop ourselves? I am not sure we can… it is a fact that such out of ordinary special relationships or bonds do give a fresh feel… they bring lot of hope and faith in the otherwise despairingly routine life of work and home… they give something to look forward to beyond the conventional friendships and relationships… and I believe they should be kept out of the regular periphery of our normal life to retain their special flavour… afterall they are the bonds with a special touch, nurtured by doing special things for that special someone...
