The Timeless Trance...

by - May 18, 2012

While talking to a friend today, happened to discuss how quickly time is going by, how fast kids are growing… and realized what they need the most now is my Time… then parents called and first thing I was asked “are you busy? do you have Time to talk right now?”… Boss reminded of pending work and promptly added on additional work, and I was left to think “where is the Time?”… If I need something badly today, its TIME… there are so many activities to be done, so many places to be seen, so many books/blogs to read, so many people to catch up with, so many hobbies to cultivate, so many new things to learn, so many dreams to realize, so many promises to fulfill… but I don’t seem to have time… every night, I promise myself that next day, shall plan better and get atleast a few minutes for myself in the end… but comes end of the day and I see that I have actually carried forward few items to next day…comes weekend, time to unwind everyone says, and I find myself struggling to finish off pending tasks… so where does all the time go?

While I was grappling with this thought, came across this article, an eye-opener of its kind… it says 15 ways to find 15 minutes everyday… almost all of them would work, but few of them are kickass… first one goes LOG OFF FACEBOOK - We now spend a whopping 7 hours a month on Facebook, according to Neilsen. Now do the math: Seven hours a month works out to exactly 15 minutes every single day (I am sure I spend more!!)… phew
Second one I personally liked was SAY NO - Next time someone (not your boss !!) asks you to do something you really don't want or need to do, say, "I'm sorry. No. I just can't," and feel the freedom—and all that free time—wash over you
Ok this one is also very relevant, BE DECISIVE - You can easily waste hours choosing which brand of sneakers to buy or which fonts/colors/shapes/formats to use in a ppt (it's called analysis paralysis).
And one more bang on is PICK UP THE PHONE - Texting and emailing can be great timesavers, but sometimes it takes 15 messages to accomplish what you could do in a 40-second phone call !!
One that I have implemented already is RECORD TV SHOWS… I have rather switched from TV to my mobile… like the Star Plus app is super, can see any show anytime… No Ads on the App, means show duration reduced to 20 min and I save TIME and how… three cheers to smart phone revolution (iPhone revolution to be precise!!)…

While these time-saving tricks are barely common sense… when packaged with some convincing numbers or jazzy language, become very encouraging and persuasive… I am completely convinced that, to be able to do everything that I have been thinking of doing, I need such tricks to ration time, to allocate time, to save time, more importantly to respect time… Having said that, I also wonder how everyone else manages their time… time that they have, as much as I have… The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of 60 minutes an hour, whoever he/she is.. yet everyone around seems to be doing so many things, seems to be achieving so many milestones…

and I am stuck with a phenomenon called ‘no time’… stuck in a trance seeing time tick away by two eerie hands… as if killing every minute, every second that comes their way… wondering when will this clock stop slaying, and let time come to life…
