You @ 11 : The magical Elf...
My dear Niky,
Wish you a very happy 11th sweetie pie..
I cannot believe you are 11.. really… something is not quite
right about how time has flown by and how fast you have grown.. it seemed like
a complete silent growth, without me getting any whiff of it… Now that I sit to
write this note to you, and made a list of things I want to mention here (lest I
forget), I figured how all my thoughts, my experiences with you and everything
that you are, is about a girl who has matured into this thoughtful, sharp-minded
lassie, with her own astute character...
A character you are sure… you confess how clumsy (that’s the
word you prefer over messy !) and unorganized you are and yet carry it with
panache… you tend to lose yourself if you try to be methodical… and when you
are your ownself, you tend to lose sense of time, day/night, people, conversations,
for that matter everything around you… you are in your own fantasy world, which I
am know for sure is brighter and breathtaking than the real one we live in… you actually
are convinced you are an Elf, a mythical creature with magical powers and
supernatural beauty (again, that’s how you described Elves to me!).. most of
the time you are deep into the imaginary tales & stories, flying all around
you… stories by others, and those that you write too…
We had printed a short collection of your stories on your
last birthday, hoping that will inspire you to write more, and oh boy, you are
unstoppable… almost !... Over last one year that we all have been home-bound, you continued pursuing your enthusiasm for writing, completed
some writing courses and very soon one of your stories will be published by
Scholastic in one of their story collections.. Eagerly waiting for that first 'publication' you are, so am I.. 😀
Your social media footprint has started with Goodreads, where
you network with other readers, create book shelves, exchange book-views, and
write book reviews… Niky, your reviews
are fab you know… amusing, yet sharp… totally ‘from the heart’ stuff… what
bemused me more is that you got invites to write reviews for others’ books !! I
mean, isn’t that just wow? But when you told me about these invites, you
sounded as if its one of those distractions that should be ignored… I acted as
if I did ignore, but I must have mentioned about it to many of my friends, my
joy brimming… I still cant figure why were you smug about it though !!
I asked you what do you want for your birthday this time and
you thoughtfully said – “has to be something to do with reading and writing… so
a library membership and a Wordpress blog”… any library we choose, will fall
short of your reading appetite but we nevertheless enrolled… and then this blogging
has been on your mind for a while now… you have done your independent research from
how Wordpress is better than Blogger, to how to create themes and identity with
your blog… today you wrote your first post on the blog - niharikamalviya.wordpress.com - and how I loved reading it… I know I know it is your blog and you know all
about it, so mentioning this link in this letter to you seems weird… but I am
swelling with so much pride having seen how the blog took shape… I cant not adorn
my blog with a link to it… 😊
the name you chose for your blog – Elf’s Shelf – says all about you… and your
magical world of stories… like you say, you want to write about things that
people have not known before… I am keenly waiting for the stories, and some stoking
to my imagination too...
To be part of your world, is one of your asks of me, I try, am trying... oh and yes, am working on all those other 'feedback' points you sent to me when I asked you for my improvement areas !! some of them were - its not 19th century, so not to scold you because MY expectations were not met... listen to you and not make my assumptions about you under the garb of knowing you... not expect you to be perfect, because you are not and noone can be... - well, I am feeling embarassed as I listed these points, but then such conversations between us make our journey all the more fascinating...
Someone who cannot appreciate your world, cannot obviously
fit into it… no wonder then that there are just a handful few who you adore, who
you love being with… I admit that it takes an effort to think like you think…
free-spirited, uninhibited… it’s a virtue I have lost long back, along the way
somewhere… but in my effort to dive into your universe, I have only got
inspired and emboldened… to dream of the unreal, to think of inconceivable, to
create the impossible… all thanks to your imaginings and your writings…
… so go on girl, hold the pen, write out your heart and make
yours an interesting story…
Love, Mumma..
