Birthday parties...

Had an invitation to a birthday party… my friends kid turned 5… time really flies (at a jet speed if I may say so…)
Thanks to Nithila, we now get such invitations regularly… but the toughest part of such parties is Nithila herself… starting from getting her dressed up (refuses to wear anything other than what she has put her hands on)… to getting her sit patiently in the car… to managing her in the party (she is all over the place, running around, bumping into every other person)…
So we happened to go to this birthday… these days birthday parties are almost like a major event… with games, magician shows, tattoos etc and this was no different… I guess it takes all these things to satiate the ever inquisitive and enthusiastic kids of today…
Compare these with the birthday parties we used to have in our growing up years… ‘party’ would be completely an overstatement… if at all, it would just about be a cake cutting ceremony with family and some friends… ofcourse this is not a right comparison… if things have changed and evolved with time, why not birthday parties!!!
This party we attended had an element of difference though… and that was this chanting of mantras at the time of cake cutting… like prayers… instead of the ‘oh so regular’ happy birthday song… and it did make the whole ambiance pretty divine and celestial…
Nithila is still too small to play the games or watch the magician flipping his magic… so she keeps herself occupied with her own fixations… like collecting balloons from all over the place and accumulating in one corner, arranging and re-arranging chairs (wonder what goes on in her mind when she does this!!)…
we simply let her be and we have our part of fun by participating in the games and magic shows and dance… these are few opportunities we seize to peek back into our childhood… and relive it… albeit in the new generation way… :)
