Generation Nxt...
Have some Shoppers Stop vouchers on me… when we had to redeem some points, the most obvious choice was these SS vouchers as one would expect most of our impulsive needs to be met here…
And as expected, one fine day, we did realize the need to buy some stuff… so we marched into a huge mall which incidentally also houses SS…
A Sunday evening it was… a rainy evening at that… roads, trees, vehicles, people… all soggy and damp due to rains… except the peoples’ spirits… which the rains failed to dampen... the congregation of people there was awfully encouraging…
At first sight we thought this is like a weekend getaway for people and hence the rush… but one sight at the payment counters and eatery joints and you would change your opinion instantly… we thought of having a quick bite at MacD… so made our way towards the MacD corner... only to be astounded at seeing the long queue at counter… longest ever I have seen at any MacD… it had extended outside of the outlet with people even dripping in rains… we surely didn’t have patience and time (this we never seem to have enough!!) and so we walked away… carrying the aroma of burgers and nuggets.. :)
This triggered a discussion between Amit and me… this is todays common man… todays youth mainly… shopping, socializing, merrymaking, consuming… at the most complaining of issues that hit them like petrol prices, salary cuts, load shedding, traffic and the like… but unmindful of larger issues like national security, political agenda, upheaval in education system (unless their children are schooling!!), market downturns and much more…
Now I don’t know if this is a good sign… that they can co-exist with the most uncertain spells… And keep spirits up at all time… or a bad sign… as these are the future of our country… but not influenced by the present… not involved in shaping the future…
