You @ 2: Effervescent fun & frolic...
My precious Niky,
Here is wishing you a very happy 2nd birthday… two years into this world, you have made our world incredibly beautiful… two years into our life, you have blessed every moment of being in it.. two years of your existence, you have given us another reason to exist in contentment.. like you keep twirling around us all the while, our life also revolves around you all the time…
This year gone by has been absolutely eventful and happening, with you achieving many milestones… the biggest one being the beginning of your schooling… yes a playgroup you have been enrolled into and what an excitement it is every single day to see you off there, absolute delight to see you returning home, fully charged up and animated… amusing to hear you relay to us what you hear in school, be it rhymes or songs or even the kannada words that you pick up… your most favourite being ‘amma kaavaali’ (am yet to figure out what it means!)
What you speak is a language of your own… which only we at home can decipher… everytime we venture out, you confidently converse with people around, with prompt translation services provided by either Nithila, Papa or me… here is a pick from your language glossary:
Ayyo Aama, Kaupati Aama (ayyo rama kalupati sama).. thanks to Andy uncle for getting this in your head…
TANNU, YECOME.. these are the sweetest thank yous and welcomes we have ever heard…
CUM YUM (come here)
KA UA (kya hua).. it thrills Dadi and Babaji to hear this… takes them back to their native hindi language
KIKI (didi)… you can very well say didi, but you still like calling Nithila as kiki
GOO GA, BA GA (good girl, bad girl).. you are always ‘goo’ and all others you say are ‘ba’
WAI THI (what is this).. you ask this atleast 100 times a day and to be honest it gets a little exhausting to answer everytime…
LABU (love you)… hahaha it sounds also as hilarious..
We fondly call you copy-cat… all you want to do is copy Nithila… you minutely observe everything that Nithila does and copy every detail of hers.. the way she plays, reads, sits, eats, talks… its almost as if every movement or every dialogue of Nithila comes with a replay and it is indeed so much fun to see this mini-replay… you should also know that you fight the most with Nithila, you snatch, shout, defy, refute her always and yet she protects you, tutors you and looks after you… you get the maximum attention from her, get the solemnest love from her… since last two days, Nithila has been telling all her friends that its your birthday today and I fear that she has already invited all of them home to celebrate… on her behest, we will have our home decorated with lots of balloons & decorate you with Barbie tattoos all over…
There are so many things that you do, that you say, that I want to tell you about you… not all thoughts can be penned here.. but a few things that defined this year for you are..
you know what your name is and when asked you say ‘Niharika’.. also you are prompt to add ‘Papa ki paddu’ (papa fondly calls you Paddu)…
you know that what you see in mirror is actually you and you spend time admiring yourself.. you love to dress up and go around the house modeling and saying ‘mamma dekho’, turning and twisting from all angles… all I do here is stare at you in astonishment..
you have started creating your independent identity, evident from the fact that people call me Niharika’s mother… and it’s a very fulfilling experience..
you now know what belongs to you and are very possessive about everything…you cannot stand anyone else touching your things… you don’t believe in sharing… you claim your right on everything and everyone around you saying ‘meya ai’ (mera hai)… well, for other things, I get a little worried and coax you to share… but when you show same possession for me by shielding me and yelling ‘meyi mumma’, it is out-and-out overwhelming…
you have started enjoying road travels and that too in a disciplined way… sitting behind in the car with seat belt on (and no fuss!).. we did some awesome road trips to Kabini wildlife, to Coorg, to Mahabalipuram this year…
you know that love is something very warm and cozy and everytime I say ‘Mumma loves you’… you reciprocate with a big hug (as big and tight as your tiny hands can manage) and a whisper in my ear ‘Mumma I love youuu’… these hugs, these cuddles, these whispers mirror the tenderness and affection that you carry in your heart…
When away from you, I crave for your cheerful smile, I miss your swivels around me… when with you, your warmth fills up my heart, your inimitable smell appeases me… the sparkle in your eyes when you see me makes this life worth living… living with you, revolving all around you..
Thank you Niky for being so wonderful… Happy birthday once again..
Mumma loves you… :-)
