When they fly apart...

Prologue:
Many a times, many a stories, many a journeys remain incomplete, unfulfilled with just a stray beacon of hope that maybe someday the remaining chapters of the story will be written... So often do two persons meet, they dream, they laugh, they hope... But they fail to sustain, they fail to realize what once they yearned to make a life out of. And then... one fine day... the time knocks... when they fly apart... with heavy hearts and starving eyes...

The incomplete story:
Her eyes followed the plane as it taxied away… it circled around the airstrips for a while, as if unsure of taking off, giving her heart the last hope… but it kept steering farther away from her… her mind all this while had been churning out ideas for one hoax call to stop the plane, and her heart was pushing them aside, hoping for some miracle… at one point, the plane slowed down and her fingers crossed each other, yearning that it will turn and come back, right where she was… afterall, there is always that weak moment before that final leap and the sternest of resolves can fall weak there… but the fact also is that, all you need is one jerk in that moment and you soar… just then she heard a screeching sound, the plane catching speed, her eyes moving rapidly to keep up with it and there it was gone…
Just a few hours back, she had sat in her reclining chair, thinking of the evening ahead… the incessant rain outside had not left much options but then these are the times when books keep great company… while she scouted for a good book to read, there was a sharp, familiar knock on the door… the evening afterall was not going to be spent alone.. She opened the door and there he stood, his tall muscular frame almost filling up the doorway… droplets dripping from the wet hair-tips and the blobs of water on his clothes unfolded a story of his rainy encounter… the room was warm enough for him, yet he continued to quiver… his eyes were resplendent with resolve, yet they followed her apprehensively as she served coffee to him… he held her hand, instead of the coffee mug and made her sit next to him… a few minutes of silence later she heard the words ‘I am leaving tonight’… the words she always knew she had to hear, had prepared and rehearsed herself for, yet came like a lightening… she remained speechless…
Its been almost two years he had confessed his feelings for her, and she for him, unsure of them at that time though… over next few months, his unsurety tilted heavily towards the positive whereas hers drifted towards negative, or so she thought… and then followed the convincing and persuading episodes… he played many characters in these episodes, from being a friend, lover, philosopher, to being an eccentric, antagonist, avenger… all of them unyielding and unconvincing… after two years, he was sitting across her, maybe the thousandth time, but with a changed posture, ready to move on… he had to move on… his ambitions, aspirations… his responsibilities, obligations… his dreams, desires… his plans, preparations… his abilities, endowments… all needed wings and he had found them finally… She looked at him in dismay as he rose up to leave… without a word, she left home with him…
The driver kept scanning them through his rear view mirror, as they sat behind quietly, looking blankly outside the window… he had seen them laugh their hearts out, he had seen them conspire in whispers, he had seen them quarrel over arguments, he had seen them roar in happiness too, but today as he ferried them to the airport, it was his most quizzical and quietest drive ever… only sound they could hear was of the rain lashing on the windows and tyres grazing on the wet road…
She froze at the foyer, as he cleared himself through the checks ahead… His heart perhaps was hoping that she will beg him to stay back, her heart was actually begging him to stay back… but what stayed back were their thoughts, not a single word was uttered… it was raining outside but water had filled up in her eyes as she watched him go… it was cloudy outside, but darkness had filled up in her heart as she let him go… just then she heard a screeching sound, the plane catching speed, her eyes moving rapidly to keep up with it and there it was gone…
