Spring has arrived...
Pulled myself out of the bed early on one of these bright and clear mornings… with a refreshing cup of lemon-honey-water, sat on the bean bag, next to the window, looking at the enthusiastic morning walkers and joggers… listening to the chants being recited in the temple… everything was so calm and peaceful, like any other morning… and then suddenly my attention was caught by something unusual… the vast expanse of landscaped garden on the podium below… the parched look of the garden had disappeared, mixed shades of yellows and pinks and greens appeared as if sprinkled on the garden… and it made me realize… Spring had set in, brewing a pleasantly colorful landscape, on a dazzling sunny morning…
The next moment I looked at my plants, just next to me in the window… they wore a drained and parched look still… why had the spring not smeared its colours on my tiny plants? Why had the spring not arrived at my home? I had not seen my plants and shrubs blossom since a long time… Got up from the window a little dejected and started watering them… had a feeling that they were wanting something more from me, not sure what… it was may be just a passing thought but it stayed with me for a while… The very next day, I spent dedicated three hours with my eight little plants… re-potted some, removed all weeds, dead leaves and stems… cleaned every single leaf, letting it breathe… checked on the soil, fertilized it… and while doing all this I hated myself for having ignored them all this while… used to water them diligently but had may be ignored their need for love and care… a lesson to remember… living creatures (including we humans) can survive on food and water, but their lives blossom only with love and affection…
Since then, while I lower myself in the bean bag every morning, the first thing I look at is my plants… today morning, was so glad to see the tiny new leaves budding out and buds blossoming into flowers, that could not resist and took some pictures also !! Its just three days since I had helped them breathe again, and they have already started painting a colorful canvas in my window… now the sunny mornings, with the sunlight peeping into our window through these dotted plants, is an absolutely stunning sight… don’t have to look at any other garden, because here at my home, Spring has arrived…

Very well said Gauri...plants need love and care...just like our children :) I spend about 30 minutes daily on my terrace where I have some 20 odd plants...and during that time, I feel completely happy and at peace :) Maybe we need plants just as much as they need us...
ReplyDeleteJust had a question...in case you can help me out...2 of my plants which i bought recently are just not growing...the new leaves are drying up too soon...in fact looks like the leaves are burning off...have re-potted, put fertilizer...and to ensure that adequate amount of water is poured, i water all plants on my own...
Was actually thinking that today I will take them to a nearby nursery and have their health checked...
Love this one , by far one of your best posts..! Sree, they be under too much sun, check that first and dont over water the plant ,
ReplyDeleteThank you girls.. realized we three share this hobby ALSO!! waiting to figure out more and more common passions...
ReplyDeleteSree.. this problem of leaves almost bruning off had happened to my 5 yr old plant.. on advise of a road-side nursery, plucked off all leaves frm the plant... washed the stems thoroughly and treated them with an insectiside (again bought from roadside nursery).. worked!! new leaves that came were all healthy...
